Our Beginner program follows a structured curriculum using Genki I, ensuring steady and measurable progress.
What You Will Achieve
By the end of the all courses (4terms), you will be able to:

Read & Write: Hiragana, Katakana, and approximately 145 Kanji.Use Core Vocabulary: Master around 400–500 essential words for everyday situations.

Communicate with Confidence: Talk about yourself, daily routines, shopping, travel, health, and personal experiences.
Understand Japanese Grammar: From polite basics to casual conversation and natural explanations.

Group Class Structure at a Glance
Beginner 1 (N5 - 1/4):
The Essentials
Themes: Identity, Shopping, Basic Actions You build the absolute foundation of Japanese.
Master Hiragana.
B1 covers Genki 1 chapter1-3.
You will be able to: Introduce yourself clearly, ask prices and shop with confidence, and talk about your daily routine.
Beginner 2 (N5 - 2/4):
Action & Interaction
Themes: Existence, Description, Requests You unlock core grammar that makes Japanese flexible and useful.
Master Katakana and some Kanji.
B2 covers Genki 1 chapter4-6.
You will be able to: Describe places and locations, express likes and dislikes, make polite requests, and ask permission.
Beginner 3 (N5 - 3/4):
Casual Conversation
Themes: Family, Informal Speech, Thoughts You move beyond textbook Japanese and start speaking naturally.
B3 covers Genki 1 chapter 7-9.
You will be able to: Speak casually with friends, express opinions and quote others, and describe people and situations in detail.
Beginner 4 (N5 - 4/4)
Nuance & Experience
Themes: Comparisons, Travel, Health Your Japanese becomes more expressive and personal.
B4 covers Genki 1 chapter 10-12.
You will be able to: Compare options and explain preferences, talk about past experiences, explain situations, and give advice.

Group Class Questions
Yes. Beginner 1 is designed for students with little or no previous Japanese experience.
Our group courses run with a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 10 students. This keeps the class interactive while giving everyone enough opportunity to practise.
A minimum of four participants is required for a group course to run. If the minimum number is not reached and the course is cancelled, you will receive a full refund.
Group courses are available in The Hague (Den Haag), Rotterdam and online. Availability may vary by level and starting date.
Yes. Our online Japanese group courses are open to students across Europe.
Our Beginner courses are mainly based on the Genki textbook series, supported by additional materials and activities from our teachers.
If you miss a lesson, we will provide the relevant learning materials and support you in catching up with the class.
Our standard beginner pathway is:

Beginner 1 — Genki Chapters 1–3

Beginner 2 — Genki Chapters 4–6

Beginner 3 — Genki Chapters 7–9

Beginner 4 — Genki Chapters 10–12
Students can normally continue to the next course after completing each level.

Not necessarily. If you already have Japanese knowledge, we can assess your level and determine whether you can join Beginner 2, Beginner 3 or Beginner 4 directly.
Textbooks are not included in the course fee. We use Genki I and Genki II. Students are asked to purchase the textbook(s) themselves.
